According to the draw results of the second phase of the “Western Zone” group stage of the 2024-2025 Asian Champions League, Wakrah team ranked first in Group A together with Iran’s Tractor Team, India’s Mohun Bagan Super Giants and Tajikistan’s Rafshan Team.
There are 32 teams in the new tournament, divided into 8 groups (4 groups in the West and 4 groups in the East), each group consists of 4 teams.
The second group includes Saudi Cooperation Club, Iraqi Air Force, Bahrain Al-Khalidiyya Club and Tajikistan Asir Club.
The third group includes Sepahan in Iran, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, Esteghlal in Tajikistan and Al Wahda in Jordan, while the fourth group includes Shabab Al Ahli in the United Arab Emirates, Nasaf in Uzbekistan, Hussein in Jordan and Al Wahda-Kuwait in Kuwait.
As for the “Eastern Zone”, Group 5 includes Japan’s Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Australia’s Sydney FC, Philippines’ Kaya Iloilo and Hong Kong’s Eastern FC. Group 6 includes China’s Zhejiang FC, Thailand’s FC Port, Singapore’s Lion City Sailing and Indonesia’s Bandung FC.
Group 7 includes Bangkok United of Thailand, Nam Dinh of Vietnam, Lee Man of Hong Kong and Tampines Rovers of Singapore. Group 8 includes Jeonbuk Hyundai of South Korea, Selangor of Malaysia, Muangthong United of Thailand and Dynamic Herb Sibu of the Philippines.
Al-Wakrah’s participation in the Asian Championships, he first participated in the tournament version of the old-name League Champions Club Championship in 2001, and was eliminated in the preliminary rounds after repeated losses to the Iranian team Persepolis “4-2 and 5-1”.
The following year, the same situation was repeated when Wakrah lost the Iraqi team Zawara match 0-3 at home and 1-4 away.

The group stage matches will be held in a two-stage league system from September 17 to December 5.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the round of 16, which will be held in February 2025. This will be followed by the quarter-finals in March of the following year, the semi-finals in April, and finally the final on May 17 of the same year.
