The Immigration and Passport Department of the Yemeni government’s Ministry of Interior warned on August 9 that it is illegal to accept or process passports issued by the Houthis, which are listed as a terrorist organization.
It demands that all those who receive and handle the document “bear legal responsibility and the consequences of criminal acts of sabotage and terrorism, since it was issued by a terrorist militia through which they seek to export terrorists to the world,” according to the official Saba news agency.
The Immigration, Passport and Nationality Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior announced that in July last year, a total of 95,794 passports were issued in all branches of the agency in government provinces and foreign missions.
Authorities said in statistics published in security media that the issuance of passports was divided between 34,024 passports issued through foreign missions and 14,492 passports issued through the administration in the main center of the city of Aden, the country’s temporary capital.
The authority’s branches in Aden issued 13,38 passports, in Taiz 11,325 passports, in Marib 7,913 passports, in Shabwa 5,041 passports, in Sayun 4,712 passports, in Hadramawt Sahel 2,398 passports, through the Mahrah governorate passport office 1,671 passports, in Al-Khawkhah branch 1,018 passports and in Socotra 162 passports.
