The Solomon Islands Government, under the leadership of Acting Prime Minister Bradley Tovosia, has successfully brokered a peaceful resolution following the tragic events in the Tenaru area.
The shooting, which took place last week and involved personnel from Guadalcanal, Marau and the North Malaita coast, sparked tensions and retaliatory violence.
The Acting Prime Minister showed outstanding leadership and commitment to national unity by acting quickly to de-escalate the situation alongside Honiara East MP Morris Toilaena, Speaker of the Guadalcanal Assembly, Peter Olonisaka and Paramount Chief John Saktala.

Mr. Tovosiya engages directly with affected communities to ensure the restoration of peace and build a path to reconciliation.
Their combined efforts culminated in a final peace agreement on Monday, bringing comfort and harmony to the families and communities involved.
In his speech at the reconciliation ceremony, Acting Prime Minister Tovosia commended the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) for its key role in maintaining law and order during tense times.
He thanked them for their professionalism and generosity in hosting a reconciliation ceremony at the police station, during which traditional shell coins from Malaita and Guadalcanal and local delicacies were exchanged, symbolizing the enduring importance of culture in resolving conflict and maintaining peace.
Councillor Tovossia said: “Cultural traditions continue to play a vital role in our society.”
“The exchange of shell money and local food at the reconciliation ceremony is a powerful reminder that our customs have power and meaning in the modern world. Culture is so important; we cannot lose it. We must preserve and respect it.”
The successful resolution of the situation not only demonstrates the decisive leadership of His Excellency Tovosiya, but also reflects the determination of the Solomon Islands Government of National Unity to maintain peace and stability in the Solomon Islands.
The Acting Prime Minister’s proactive approach to conflict resolution is in line with the Government’s overall vision of building a unified country working together for the common good.
Both families expressed gratitude for the reconciliation process and hope for a lasting peace.
The GNUT government and its members remain committed to supporting all communities as we move forward in peace and unity.
