Following the sudden deaths of three American tourists on Exuma Island this weekend, the Bahamas Government wishes to provide the following update as we continue our investigation.

Our thoughts are first and foremost with the grieving families. As an Exuma native and a Member of Congress, I have personally reached out to the families to express my condolences on behalf of the people of Exuma and The Bahamas.

Officials from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Tourism and the U.S. Embassy have been working together since Saturday, including collaborating to expedite the process of formally identifying the deceased.

Once the remains are legally identified, a pathologist can begin the process of determining the cause of death.

Prime Minister Davis has been following the development of the situation closely.
We will provide further updates once more information becomes available.

Once again, we extend our thoughts, condolences and prayers to the families affected.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Royal Bahamas Police Force will remain in close contact with the family of the deceased.

We ask that their wishes for privacy be respected. —–
