ABU News Group elected Ahmet Görmez of TRT-Türkiye as its new chairman at its annual News Group meeting held at the Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok
The meeting also elected Fumitaka Sato of Japan’s NHK and Nesryne Bouzaine of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as vice chairmen of the committee.
Outgoing President, Indra Singh of FBC Fiji, spoke at the meeting, thanking members for their contribution to Asia Vision during his two terms in the position. He praised members for their resilience and courage during the Covid-19 pandemic and in covering the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
News Corp has also introduced changes to the ABU’s rules to align international news exchanges with industry practices and sister unions.
These changes include providing additional security for members’ content and avoiding misunderstandings.
The newly elected ABU News Council will hold its first meeting this Friday, after attending the Global News Forum and the Asia Vision Awards Gala on Thursday, July 17.
