ABU News Director Deborah Steele is the new chairperson of the World Broadcasting Unions News Committee.
Deborah replaces Liz Corbin, president of the European Broadcasting Union, who resigned due to other commitments.
The committee discusses, responds to and exchanges information on major industry issues.
Deborah Steele: “The World Broadcasting Unions play an important role in uniting the world’s public service broadcasters, sharing expertise, improving our ability to deliver on our critical service obligations and strengthening our response to issues of common concern. I welcome the opportunity to serve in this role, to strengthen the role of the World Broadcasting Unions’ Press Committee and to promote the needs and activities of sister unions.”
In addition to the Asian Broadcasting Union and the European Broadcasting Union, the committee includes the news directors of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, the African Broadcasting Union, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, the International Association of Broadcasters and the North American Broadcasters Association.
