SANTO DOMINGO – President Luis Abinader ordered this Thursday to increase the salaries of clerical and administrative staff of the National Drug Control Agency by up to 160% effective next October, the Minister of the Presidency announced.

Joel Santos Echavarría, together with the president of the drug enforcement agency, José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, said the operation would allow the agents to improve their living conditions, with better access to basic goods and services such as food, housing, education and health for them and their families.

Recognizing the risks of combating drug trafficking

Likewise, he noted that the pay increase is also a recognition of the risks and efforts involved in combating and persecuting drug trafficking.

He said President Abinader’s government fully values the dedication of the agents and strengthens their sense of belonging and commitment to the institution and society.

Those with the lowest ranking will receive the most benefits

Cabrera Ulloa said the biggest beneficiaries will be the lowest-level agents, who receive a salary of RD$11,165.00 and who from now on will receive RD$29,025.07, a salary increase of 159.96%.

He explained that in order for the wage adjustment to take effect, the government allocated 135,993,632.59 reais for the remainder of the period from October to December, which includes the payment of part of the Easter royalty to all those who benefit from the measure.

“The salary increase for DNCD civilians ranges from 51 to 160 percent, with salaries ranging from 29,000 pesos to 46,769 pesos,” explained Vice Admiral Cabrera Ulloa.

The pay increase will take effect from October.
