Santo Domingo – President Luis Abinader will take office on August 16 next year, accepting new mandates and will present a constitutional reform project to the National Congress.
The president said during his participation in “Press Week” that unlike previous reforms, this reform will separate politics from the amendment of the Magna Carta.
The number of representatives decreased from 190 to 153
He said the project includes reducing the number of representatives from 190 to 153, a reduction of 37 people, which he believes is meant to promote understanding of legislative projects.
He claimed that the measure would make Congress more efficient besides significantly cutting public spending.
The reform also includes a revision of the appointment method of the Attorney General of the Republic to strengthen his independence from the executive branch. Likewise, the unification of elections is an important point.
