The Qatar Olympic Museum 1-2-3 seeks to achieve much through its involvement in the Summer Olympics (Paris 2024), hosting the “Qatar Exhibition” from July 30 to August 25, with many works on display… providing valuable objects for visitors and participants in events outside the Olympics, while the Paralympics will open on August 28.
Regarding Qatar’s participation in the network of Olympic Museums affiliated to the International Olympic Committee, Abdullah Mulla, Director of the Qatar Olympic Museum, confirmed on 1-2-3 that all preparations for the exhibition have been completed. The pieces participating in the Olympic Games have been completed, they have more than 19,000 collections in the Qatar Museum, they will be exhibited at the Qatar exhibition in Paris, among which there are some rare and precious pieces that can be traced back to previous achievements. In addition to Qatar’s first participation in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the United States, in 1984, there are also 3,000 pieces representing part of the collections borrowed from the International Olympic Museum, which will be exhibited during Qatar’s first participation in the Paris Olympic Games. He revealed that a book with the logo of the Olympic Movement will be launched during the Qatar exhibition in cooperation with the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Qatar Olympic Committee. The Qatar Olympic Academy pointed out that the launch of the book is a major achievement and will be added to the library of the Qatar Olympic Academy after translating its author, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the French Olympic Movement, from French and English into Arabic. International Olympic Committee and Arab and International Libraries for what it contains about the history and cradle of the Olympics.
He explained that the book’s launch will take place at a reception to be held by the Qatar Olympic Committee on August 1 next year, in the presence of an elite team of IOC officials, as well as H.E. Sheikh Joan. Bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and head of the State of Qatar’s delegation to the Olympic Games, pointed out that it is an integrated working group that is involved in the activities of the exhibition, whose task is to organize activities appropriate to the exhibition. The task of the artistic team is limited to explaining to visitors the exhibition’s collection, which includes the first championship won by the late world champion Muhammad Ali Clay by showing the gloves he won during his participation in the Rome Olympics in 2017, and the gold medal won by Qatari high jump champion Moataz Barshim during his participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 1960, becoming the first gold medal achieved by Qatar in athletics. He stressed that the purpose of Qatar’s participation in the exhibition is to impress visitors with the experience of the Qatar Olympic Museum, which is part of the IOC Museum network, and pointed out that Qatar maintains its glorious history through its participation in international sports forums and its direction to use all its capabilities. Its interests in infrastructure, stadiums and construction have laid a solid foundation, in addition to hosting many events, especially the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which has won the trust of FIFA and the entire international sports community.
Abdullah Mulla expressed the hope that the exhibition would attract a large number of visitors to learn about Qatar’s experience and implement the directives of Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums.
