A2RL hits another milestone: Launches  million autonomous drone racing championship

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates–(ANTARA/Business Wire)–The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL), which debuted at the Yas Marina Circuit in April this year, has announced the next phase of its competition with the Drone Championship League (DCL), the world’s top professional drone racing organization. Building on the success of its inaugural event, A2RL drone racing continues to push the frontiers of autonomous technology, combining human skills with innovative advances in autonomous flight.

The Autonomous Drone Race will bring together teams from around the world, welcoming established drone racing teams, research institutions and enthusiastic “newbies”. All participants will compete for a huge prize of $1 million as they strive to achieve maximum agility and speed while successfully navigating objects in their path. Registration is now open a2rl.ioand invites interested teams to register to participate. All entries will go through a rigorous screening process to determine the successful participating teams. Entrants who pass the screening will be invited to participate in a series of tasks that will allow the judging panel to assess the team’s proficiency in autonomously flying drones using an open source simulator. The finals will be held in April 2025, at which time the winner will be determined.

A2RL is organized by ASPIRE and is known as the world’s largest autonomous racing league, integrating artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving and extreme sports to push the boundaries of future mobility. In the A2RL extreme autonomous drone competition, participating researchers will program drones to pass through a series of gates, avoid obstacles, and use onboard sensors and computing power. The main goal of the competition is to set a benchmark to achieve the greatest innovation in algorithms using the least sensor technology in complex environments.

Like all large-scale challenges, the A2RL Drone Challenge will focus on STEM and welcome high school students to participate.
