The 13th edition of the International Fair of Women’s Crafts (SAFEM) is just around the corner and this year the event promises to be a real catalyst for innovation and sustainability in the crafts industry. Slated to take place from November 29 to December 8, 2024, SAFEM will bring together more than 250 exhibitors from 20 African countries in Niamey, offering an extraordinary showcase for Nigerien and African crafts.
It is in this context that the Minister of Handicrafts and Tourism, Mrs. Aghaichata Guichene Atta, took the initiative to meet with Nigerien artisans. The purpose of these meetings is not only to establish a framework for lasting exchanges with professionals in the field, but also to collect their concerns in order to provide concrete solutions. As the Minister stressed, SAFEM is not just an event, but a platform to enhance the visibility of Niger and show that the country remains standing and resilient despite the challenges it faces.
Ms. Aghaichata Guichene Atta urged local and international artisans to mobilize massively to create this extraordinary edition. She also stressed the importance of the participation of the best women, so that this edition reflects the dynamism and creativity of Niger’s handicraft sector, even in times of sanctions and political challenges.
Mr. Mahamadou Yacouba, Institutional Representative of SAFEM, recalled that this event is also part of the economic vision of the CNSP and Head of State, Brigadier General Abdrahamane Tiani. Handicrafts, as a pillar of the national economy, play a vital role in this vision and SAFEM provides a unique opportunity to showcase local talents and promote inclusive growth.
For Mr. Sahabi Yani, representative of the National Union of Craftsmen of Niger, the 13th edition must be an accountability exercise. He called on artisans to produce high-quality work and fully occupy the space that is rightfully theirs, saying that this edition must be a true reflection of their expertise and resilience.
SAFEM 2024 therefore promises to be a major event, not only for Nigerien artisans, but for the entire African continent. Despite the challenges, the fair will be an opportunity to celebrate women’s craftsmanship, promote innovation and strengthen Niger’s position on the international stage. With more than 200 exhibitors expected, SAFEM 2024 is an unmissable event for all those who wish to discover, support and promote African craftsmanship.
