Fortunately, he grabbed the edge and climbed up.
According to police reports, groundwater eroded the soil and damaged part of the underground sewer, where the foreigners disappeared. Rescue workers who immediately arrived at the scene were also unable to do anything. Two excavators were subsequently brought in to widen the passage.
On the first day, despite the mobilization of about a hundred people – firefighters, police, civil protection experts and the mayor’s office, the missing woman could not be found. All activities had to be stopped on Saturday night due to heavy rain: all underground drains were overflowing with water.
The search continued on August 24, expanding the scope of the investigation to nearby communities, including water treatment points. Six divers entered the sewer through the sewer hatch. They were called back at nightfall until 9 am this morning.
Judging by the pessimistic statements of the leaders of the operation, the rescuers have no hope of finding the woman alive. It is not clear how long the underground communications will be explored. Relatives insist that they continue and demand to find the woman. The tourist came to Kuala Lumpur for vacation with her husband and friends. Yesterday they planned to return home.
According to police in the Malaysian capital, a similar collapse occurred in the same area last year. Experts must now conduct a geological survey of the area to understand how safe it is for residents and tourists. In the meantime, the street has been cordoned off. All retail outlets in the area are advised to temporarily close to reduce the flow of people.
