This Saturday, Osodere New concerts this season at the Adela Reta National Auditorium: Fantastic Iberia Guidance from a Spanish teacher Jose Maria Moreno.
The concert will feature works from Impressionism, a movement focused on finding sonic atmospheres. The repertoire includes works such as “Prelude to the Siesta Ani” and “Iberia” by Debussy, one of the greatest exponents of the movement.
There will also be performances of “Dance Dreams of Turin” and Liszt’s “Piano Concerto No. 1,” with Argentinian-Canadian pianist Alexandre Panizza participating as guest soloist.
Before giving a speech in the Eduardo Fabini Conference Room, Moreno answered questions from El País.
—You have conducted orchestras in different countries. Is this your first time in Uruguay?
—In my 30-year career, I have had the privilege of working with many orchestras from Asia, America and Europe, and sharing the experience of music-making with people from different cultures is something I am passionate about in my profession. This week I visited Uruguay for the first time and I was really happy. I have very good Uruguayan friends who live in Spain and they always talk to me about their country, but I must admit that it was a pleasant surprise and I was very happy to conduct this Saturday at the National Auditorium.
——This week is here. In addition to the previous remote work, can you grasp the pulse of the company during these days of work?
-Of course. Obviously, there is always an individual process of learning the repertoire, both for the conductor and the musicians; but in the end, the rehearsals of the orchestra as a whole and with the orchestra director usually last about a week. So it is normal that we have to get the pulse of the orchestra in a very short time. The guest conductor, who does not know the orchestra and comes to conduct a concert for the first time, must have the skill to be able to communicate quickly with the musicians, to understand each other from a technical point of view, but also from a performance point of view. The purpose of artistry is to achieve a perfect unity in the work of art and in the composition that they are going to interpret.
——What impression did Osode leave on you?
– In fact, I am very happy with the rehearsals with Osod these days. I am amazed by the excellent quality of the teachers and their desire to contribute and improve. The development from the first day to today is huge and the working environment is great. I think we have established a good connection and created an atmosphere of mutual trust to strive for excellence in the preparation of this Saturday’s concert. It will be a concert with a very difficult repertoire, a test for any orchestra in the world, and I am sure that the Osod Orchestra will give a wonderful performance.

—I read that you apply Hunyuan Tai Chi and Qigong techniques for coaching. What is that like? What does it mean for work performance?
– Indeed, this is what I have been doing for many years as a manager and involves many aspects. On the one hand, they are techniques that give a lot of roundness, plasticity and elegance to the gestures; on the other hand, they also involve a lot of depth, strength and energy in the interpretation; finally, they involve philosophical, meditative and spiritual studies that help me to search for the essence of the work of art and to better understand what is behind the masterpieces of the great composers. I think we must be very clear about the responsibility that all of us who are dedicated to being orchestra conductors have, because music is a very powerful weapon to do good things for people and spread joy and happiness to all who listen to us.
