A series of thefts and attacks have recently caused panic among the residents of Thiès. For the Thiès family, this situation is particularly worrying. The latest incident took place in the municipality of Ousmane Ngom. This Thursday morning around 6 am, a young man named Laurent Pierre Silva was brutally attacked by two people in the Mbour 1 district of Thiès West, not far from the Thiès bus station.

He was reportedly stabbed to death in Jakarta by a man named PD, who tried to steal his motorcycle. A violent clash ensued, and Laurent Silva was stabbed multiple times, resulting in severe injuries and heavy blood loss. He eventually died from his injuries.

The suspect tried to escape after committing the crime but was quickly caught by a group of people who beat him and then burned him alive. He had just been released from prison and was wearing an electronic bracelet. According to witnesses, the atmosphere at the scene of the tragedy was very tense.

Thiès residents strongly condemned the act, which they considered despicable, and lamented the growing insecurity in their neighborhood. Ibrahima Faye, a trader at Thiès Central Market, believes that the state must take responsibility for regulating Jakarta’s motorcycle industry and strengthen security measures. Solutions to address this problem are still not enough. He called on the defense and security forces to strengthen the security system.

In other neighborhoods, such as Thiès Nord, attacks are also frequent. Mustafa, a Jakarta motorbike driver, testified that he was recently attacked by a group of thugs who nearly cut his shoulder with a machete.

Such incidents are indicative of the growing insecurity in Tiye. Lack of public lighting in some neighbourhoods is also a contributing factor. Mustafa called on the municipality to urgently address the issue.

Met near the town hall, Modou Fall also noted the attacks in his neighborhood, the municipality of Lamy, and called on the municipality team to intervene. According to him, this situation is unacceptable in a city like Thies. Snatching is also common in the area, endangering those who walk around at night with their phones in their hands.
