A report is being prepared on the plagiarism of the song “Karabakh” by an Armenian singer

The musical work “Karabakh” (“The mother of dreams is always Karabakh”) by the Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasirov was investigated by the Armenian singer Gor Yepremyan under the name “Sirun jan” and released on YouTube.

This was informed by the Intellectual Property Office in response to the Report’s inquiries.

Reportedly, the agency’s experts, folk artists, composers Figer Suadinov and Eldar Mansurov immediately reacted to the next theft in Armenia:

“According to their analysis, it was determined that B. Nasibov’s work “Karabagh” was written in the Chaharga style of maqam, and the song “Sirun jan” sung by Armenian singers coincides with B. Nasibov’s “Karabagh”. Armenians are trying. Experts also confirmed that Armenians renamed B. Nasibov’s work “Karabagh” to “Sirun Jan”, and the song “Karabagh” is one of the most famous songs of Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasibov. Bahram Nasibov’s song “Karabagh” was registered with the Intellectual Property Office (at that time the Office was called the Branch of the Republic of Azerbaijan) on June 2, 1972 and was called “Azerbaijani music”.

In addition, on July 21, 2004, the heirs of Bahram Nasibov registered many of the composer’s songs, including the song “Karabag”, at the Intellectual Property Office (which was then called the Copyright Office). They received a certificate of registration of works numbered 662:

The song “Karabakh” was included in the album “Traces of the War in the Turkish World in Music” at the initiative of TRT in 2009. The song in the album was sung by Ali Haydar Gül. All archival documents indicate that the song “Karabakh” belongs to the Azerbaijani author. Famous singers such as Egon Belal, Egon Kazimova, Konur Kasiyeva, Brilliant Dadashova, Mansum Ibrahimov and others sang this song many times on television and radio during their tours abroad.

The information mentioned that the Armenian-born singer Gor Yepremyan adapted the song “Karabakh” by the Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasibov, changed the lyrics, and sang it under the name “Sirun jan”:

“In the information about the musical work “Sirun jan” placed on the YouTube channel, there is no mention of the individual rights of the author, and from the point of view of its placement on the YouTube channel for commercial purposes, the property rights of Bahram Nasibov have been violated. In this case, in addition to the provisions of national legislation, there are also violations of Article 3 of the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), of which Armenia is a member, and therefore the purpose of the Organization is “to help protect intellectual property throughout the world through cooperation with States and any other organizations”, in violation of the provisions of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, the WIPO Copyright Treaty and the Performances and Phonograms Treaty.

“For many years, the Intellectual Property Office has regularly fought against Armenian cases of theft, misappropriation and display of author works, folklore samples and other samples of intangible cultural heritage belonging to the Azerbaijani people. Research and references were compiled on a historical basis and published in the mass media, proving with indisputable facts that these works belong to the Azerbaijani people.
