According to witnesses, the other rider immediately fled the scene of the accident.
A man was killed when two electric scooters collided in Espoo’s Lepavala district on Thursday, according to the West New Region Police.
The accident occurred at around 9pm near Huvilinnanmäki and Huvilinnantie. Initial reports indicate that an elderly man was crossing a pedestrian crossing on an e-scooter when he was hit by a younger rider travelling at high speed.
“According to witnesses, the young rider fled the scene almost immediately. Bystanders sought help for the injured man and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Chief Insp. Manual Control Said in a press release.
Police confirmed that although the elderly man was rushed to hospital, he died from his injuries on Friday afternoon.
Police are urging the young rider to come forward and are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could help identify him.
Police released a photo of the suspect on Friday.
The incident is currently being investigated for aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated manslaughter and escape.
