In response to the earthquake, they issued a tsunami warning.
A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the coastal region of Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East on Saturday. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said the earthquake had a focal depth of 51 kilometers.
The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) said it has issued a tsunami warning for the earthquake.
The quake struck just after 7am local time on Sunday (shortly after 21:00 CET on Saturday) about 90km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital of the Kamchatka region.
