Many people associate the British car manufacturer MINI with the legendary MINI Bean, but there was also the very compact and cute Cooper model. However, the portfolio gradually found a place for several larger siblings, and in addition to the five-door Cooper body variants we can also mention the largest project in the form of the Clubman station wagon or the Countryman SUV, for example. He first arrived in 2014.
However, the brand is currently slowly transforming itself into a pure electric car manufacturer, and although we can still find conventional cars, more and more emphasis is placed on those equipped with power batteries. After the new model, the Countryman even has an electric version, which was launched almost at the same time as the new generation of the little Cooper. The Countryman went on sale with a gasoline engine and the John Cooper Works sports version, and for the first time, it was also available with a pure electric drive.
It is part of a pair of motorizations – you can choose an electric car with the model E and drive only the front wheels, or a four-wheeler with the model SE All4. We had the opportunity to try the second version mentioned in a comprehensive editorial test. The new generation has changed radically, but even with the new drive or the larger dimensions does it still manage to offer the traditional excellent driving characteristics?
Bigger, more practical, and more attractive?
The latest Countryman has grown up between generations and for this there was not only a “desire” to better meet the needs of the family, but also a need to create space for the arrival of a smaller new member of the family – the MINI Aceman. It is larger than the basic Cooper, but at the same time smaller than the Countryman. In a way, it should also replace the abandoned Clubman and the five-door version of the small Cooper.
