Tahiti, June 15, 2024 – On the occasion of the “With our Wounded” day, Rimap-p and RSMA will organize a gathering on June 22 at Vairai Park in Punaauia, aimed at “raising awareness of the causes of the wounded” of the “army” of the Polynesian people, but also raising funds for the benefit of these wounded.
While the army in the territory has 130 former or active soldiers who are considered injured, Rimap-p and RSMA will organize a land and sea obstacle course open to the public on June 22 at Vairai Park in Punaauia. The aim of this day is to raise awareness of the causes of wounded in the armed forces, while raising funds to support those who have suffered physical and psychological injuries. In fact, many soldiers face post-traumatic stress syndrome after their experience in war.
As Colonel Loïc Wierzbinski, commander of the Polynesian Rimap-p, explained, “Two situations”: “Some soldiers are injured during service, and some are injured after service, especially in psychological aspects. When this happens during service, they are directly under the attention of the military health department, and the military administration monitors them closely. They are fully cared for, and there are different procedures that allow them to follow up military activities despite their injuries.”

If these soldiers are well monitored when they are injured during service, “if injuries occur after service, that’s a real problem because they sometimes have a hard time getting their rights recognized.” “It’s sometimes hard for them to even realize that they have been harmed by the military on a physical or psychological level. The goal of this day is also to allow the families of these men to connect,” explained Colonel Wierzybinski.
For Colonel Frédéric Gerlinger, head of the RSMA, it is important that the wounded in the army are aware: “The goal of this day is to enable the wounded soldiers to achieve this and for them to follow all the plans that have been made for their benefit in the army. ” To do this, they must be aware of it and take steps to contact the National Office for Combatants and War Victims (Onac) so that the injuries can be confirmed and charges against the soldiers can be considered. ”
