Today, August 8, 2024, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, met on behalf of the Prime Minister, with the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace in Dili.
The usual weekly meetings between the Government and the President of the Republic were chaired by Minister Agio Pereira, who represented the Prime Minister, while participating in important coordination meetings with several security entities focused on preparations for the celebrations and official visits scheduled for August and September.
The meeting prepared for the commemorations of the 25th anniversary of the popular consultation, which will be attended by the UN Secretary-General on 30 August, and the 25th anniversary of the arrival of the International Force in East Timor (INTERFET) in September.
Another point highlighted at the meeting was the preparations for the Apostolic Visit of Pope Francis, which will take place from September 9 to 11, 2024. Preparations for these important celebrations and events are underway, with the joint commitment of the various entities involved.
At a press conference, a government spokesman stressed that “the President of the Republic expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the preparatory work.”
Minister Agio Pereira also wished journalists success in covering the various celebrations, stressing the important role of the media in promoting Timor-Leste and the country’s international profile.
