EU foreign policy chief calls for investigation into Israeli attack on Gaza school

UNRWA Commissioner-General Filippo Lazzarini said Israel had bombed one of the agency’s schools without warning the thousands of displaced people who had taken refuge there. “Attacking, targeting or using UN buildings for military purposes is a blatant disregard for international humanitarian law,” Lazzarini wrote on the X social network.

Lazzarini said UNRWA provides information to the Israeli army and other actors in the conflict on the location of all its facilities, including schools. “Targeting our objects or using them for military purposes cannot become the new normal,” Lazzarini said, adding that about 6,000 displaced people were hiding in the school at the time of the attack.
