The World Junior Mixed Martial Arts Championships get underway at the Mubadala Arena on Wednesday and run until August 10.
The second day of the competition featured a B-level competition for the 14-15 age group, where mixed martial arts champions from around the world had the opportunity to showcase their skills, abilities and strengths in the cage.
Fahd Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, said: “Abu Dhabi continues to solidify its position as a leading platform for hosting international sporting events and a destination of choice for up-and-coming professional athletes seeking to develop and build outstanding sporting careers.”
Al Shamsi noted that the number of participants in the event has increased year by year, which reflects the accelerated spread of mixed martial arts around the world and confirms the efforts made at the local and international levels to promote the development and dissemination of the sport.
Al Shamsi continued: “Our champions performed very well and we are sure they will continue to win more medals in the upcoming competitions, thanks to the unlimited support of the wise leadership, which is the most important factor for success, and the federation’s plans and strategies aimed at spreading and developing the sport and forming a team that competes with the strongest international sports teams and carries the flag high in global forums.”
Wissam Abi Nader, Vice President of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, said: “I am delighted to be returning to Abu Dhabi again within the framework of the World Junior Mixed Martial Arts Championships event and we are also pleased to extend the agreement reached with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation to host the championships for another three years.”

Gala Al Hammadi, the UAE national team champion who won her second consecutive gold medal in the Women’s 44kg category, said: “I feel so happy and proud to have won a gold medal, to have been able to carry the flag of our beloved country, and a large part of this achievement is due to the wise leadership and the continuous support of the federation, which provided all the support, training and guidance. I am grateful that I was able to shoulder the responsibility and succeed in raising the reputation of my country at this global championship.”
UAE champion Maryam Al Mutawa also won bronze in the women’s 52kg category, bringing the UAE’s medal tally to six in the tournament.
