iciHaiti - Cité Soleil: 70,000 cubic meters of waste and alluvial sediment removed from the canal

The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF – Haiti), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works, announced that it has stepped up efforts to protect Cité Soleil residents from devastating flooding during hurricane season (June 1 – November 30).

A massive project to clean the region’s main drains was made possible with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti) through its Office of Humanitarian Assistance.

PADF’s plans: interventions in the Athlétique, Técina, 3BB, Soleil 4, St Georges (from Ti Zile to the sea) and Chancerelles canals.

Results achieved so far:
Cleaning of 4 km of drainage channels, including Athlétique, Soleil 4, 3BB and Chancerelles;
Cleared 70,000 cubic meters of trash and alluvial material from the canal;
Cleaned up 20,000 cubic meters of community garbage.

Our team works tirelessly every day to ensure a safer, cleaner environment for families in Cité Soleil. This project would not have been possible without the support of our partners and community members, the Foundation concluded.
