Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that it had issued a memorandum to all EgyptAir airlines to avoid flying in Iranian airspace between 11:30 and 14:30 on August 7 and between 4:30 and 7:30 on August 8, due to military training in Tehran.

The statement added: “In order to ensure the safety of passengers on board Egyptian aircraft and implement international standards in this regard, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority has issued a notice to all EgyptAir airlines not to fly over Iranian airspace during the above-mentioned period. … to avoid any danger that affects aviation safety.”
Egypt issued a notice instructing EgyptAir to avoid Iranian airspace between 1am and 4am UTC today (4am to 7am Israel time), according to Flight Radar, a website that tracks air traffic.
Many airlines are adjusting flight schedules to avoid Iranian and Lebanese airspace, while canceling flights to Israel and Lebanon as many fear the conflict could widen following the killing of senior members of the Hamas movement and Lebanon’s Hezbollah militia.
Middle Eastern countries including Jordan closed their airspace earlier this year following attacks on Israel.
“The notification from Egypt is very special,” said the OPS Group, which shares information on flight risks.
It’s possible that this could be an indication that Iran is responding to Israel, thus beginning a series of possible airspace disturbances, but there could be another reason for this notification.”
On Sunday, Jordanian authorities asked all airlines arriving at its airports to carry enough extra fuel to last 45 minutes.
Earlier this year, countries in the region, including Jordan, closed their airspace over Israeli airstrikes.
Israel’s official security assessment released the date, place and method of responding to the assassinations of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah operations commander in southern Lebanon Fuad Shukr.
According to Sky News Arabia’s Jerusalem correspondent, Israel estimates that “Hezbollah has determined the date, place and method of the assassination attempt, which will be carried out in the coming days.”
