“With or Without You” – U2
“With or without you” U2 is one of their most iconic tunes. It comes from their 1987 album Joshua Tree. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the single at number 131 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The magazine’s 2021 ranking placed the song at number 221.
“Whiskey in the jar” — Thin Lizzie
One of the great Irish rock bands of the 1970s. The Dublin band had their first chart hit with this song and appeared on the British TV show Top of the Pops in February 1973.
“Linger” – The Cranberries
The Limerick band rose to fame in the United States in the early 1990s, partly due to the popularity of “Linger”. In a documentary, the lead singer Dolores O’Riordan Said the song was about her first kiss.
“I don’t like Mondays” — Boomtown Rats
The song reached number one in 32 countries and lead singer Bob Geldof was inspired to write it after a California schoolgirl told police she shot her principal because she didn’t like Mondays.
“This is it” – Aslan
Aslan is best known for their 1994 hit “Crazy World,” which first gained fame in the 1980s with “This Is.” The band was founded by the late Christy Dignam “This Is” is unforgettable live and is one of the greatest Irish songs ever.
“Car Chase” – Snow Patrol
It is the second song from their fourth album and one of the band’s most famous songs, and the first Irish song to reach over 1 billion streams on Spotify. Virgin Radio listeners voted it the “best song of all time”.

“Revelate”-The Frames
The band was founded by Glen Hansard in 1990. Led by the Swell Season star, the band had a huge hit with this 1995 single.
“One of These Days” – Van Morrison
Van Morrison’s “Days Like This” was included on the Northern Irish singer/songwriter’s 23rd album. The song later became the official theme song for the Northern Ireland peace process. It was also included on the soundtrack to the film “As Good as It Gets.” Dermot Kennedy’s cover of the song has become popular during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Dear Doom” – Horslips
Horslips is considered one of the leading Irish Celtic rock bands of the 1970s. Released in 1973, this song remains one of the most iconic tracks of that rock era, with one of the best riffs in rock music. This guitar riff played a major role in Ireland’s 1990 World Cup theme song “Put Em Under Pressure”.
“A Million Miles Away” – Rory Gallagher
Saving the best for last, this Donegal-born, Cork-raised man is one of the founders of Irish blues rock. This song is featured on the album Tattoo.
