The American superstar confirmed on his social networks that he had to cancel three concerts scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Austrian capital due to terrorist threats. 65,000 spectators were expected each night. Earlier, Austrian police announced the arrest of two people, including a 19-year-old young man, who was harbouring plans for Islamist attacks, particularly with concert Taylor Swift is set to be in Vienna this week.

An Austrian citizen who had “pledged allegiance” to the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) was arrested after a special operation in Lower Austria, an hour away from the capital, the Director of Public Security announced in a press release of the conference, Franz Ruf. “We discovered preparations for Taylor Swift’s concert in Vienna,” he added, noting that “chemical substances” had been “seized” from the suspect’s home.

Roof stressed that the young man was in cahoots with another person who was also “radicalized on the internet” and was arrested in Vienna, but did not provide further details.

Austria has stepped up preventive measures since the jihadist attack on November 2, 2020, which killed four people and was the first attack in the usually very safe country of 9.1 million inhabitants.
