Uganda Equity Bank Limited has provided support of Uganda Shillings 10 million to the Watoto Golf Championship to be held on Saturday, August 10day in 2024 at the Uganda Golf Club.
The tournament is organized by the Ugandan Watoto Church and is the first of 40day The anniversary celebration aims to raise resources to upgrade the skills of learners and equip Hope Vocational and Technical College as the proceeds will be used to equip different departments with the necessary vocational training tools and resources to facilitate the learning of up to 1,400 students.
Anthony Kituuka, Managing Director of Equity Bank, highlighted the partnership and sponsorship of Equity Bank as it reflects the bank’s purpose of transforming lives, empowering dignity and expanding opportunities for wealth creation, while the organization’s vision is to be a champion of social and economic prosperity for the people of Africa.
He said: “Being a champion means finding a cause, finding like-minded people in values or goals, and working with them to achieve that cause. We are delighted to be working with the Uganda Watoto Church on this wonderful initiative and truly believe in the power of education and empowerment.”
He added: “As far as golf is concerned, Equity Bank has been involved in the golfing world for quite some time and we are well known for hosting various tournaments, especially the Longe Open. We are looking forward to a fantastic Saturday so we urge non-golfers or aspiring golfers to come and join us for golfing this weekend.”


Edward Mwesigye, head of the Watoto Church pastoral team, said the tournament aims to raise 300 million Uganda shillings to equip the Hope Vocational and Technical College, which was established by the Watoto Church to produce high-quality, skilled and productive Ugandan youths.
“We need good plumbers, electricians, engineers and mechanics to contribute to Uganda’s economy and this tournament is one of the initiatives to raise funds to support our schools because we need a lot of modern equipment, teachers and administrators to equip our young people with knowledge,” he said.
This year’s Watoto Golf Championship will focus on young people, while subsequent events will focus on young children or women that are the focus of the organization.
The Government of Uganda considers Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to be an important contributor to individual prosperity and the country’s continued economic growth and development.
The Hope Institute of Technology in Watoto was established in 2005 to meet this urgent need in the market. With more and more students joining the institute to meet the unlimited demand for excellent technical skills in the market, Hope Institute of Technology needs to invest heavily in human resources and equipment to support the training of students.
