WPP’s media division GroupM has appointed Amer El Hajj as its new CEO for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Joining GroupM’s Middle East and North Africa Executive Committee, El Hajj will be responsible for managing the group’s operations in this strategic area. He succeeds Ravi Rao, who announced his exit from the band in July last year.
In his new role, Amer El Hajj will lead strategy and operations for GroupM and its affiliates (Mindshare, Wavemaker, EssenceMediacom, mSix&Partners) across the region, not forgetting the cross-channel organization of GroupM Nexus.
Josh Krichefski, CEO EMEA & UK at GroupM, said: “The MENA region is one of our key focus areas, offering tremendous opportunity, and his impressive track record of growth-driven revenues, team upskilling and business transformation fits the bill perfectly. We have big ambitions for the MENA region and across EMEA, and we are delighted that he is joining us to support our clients in achieving the growth they are looking for.”
Amer El Hajj brings a solid understanding of the MENA region, with extensive experience gained over a 20-year career. He most recently served as Chief Investment Officer at Publicis Media for over 14 years.
Commenting on his appointment, Amer El Hajj said: “As we look to the next era of media, GroupM is the best place to shape the future and I am excited to be working with Josh and our leaders across the MENA region to sharpen our strategy and deliver the innovative solutions our clients have come to expect from us.”
Notably, this is GroupM’s second major appointment related to the region this year. In January, Josh Krichefski was promoted to CEO of EMEA and UK, replacing Demet Ikiler who joined Publicis.
