The General Health Insurance Company (VZP) has issued new cards to nearly half of its customers. Those whose existing cards are due to expire this year will receive an insured card that will be valid for the next ten years. No license is required. VZP Send them automatically.
“A total of 2.739 million insured persons are involved in the exchange. So far, 1.4 million new ID cards have been sent,” explains VZP spokesperson Viktorie Plívová.
The new card will be sent to a mailbox at the delivery address registered with the insurance company. And at least 30 days before the current license expires. The expiration date is stamped on the front. The shipment also includes a cover letter with the information.
People can return old cards to any VZP branch, but this is not mandatory. “The insured can also destroy the card themselves, for example by cutting it up,” Privovar said.
The spokesperson advised people who have changed their address to check if they have a current address listed on VZP. “Customers can notify a change of delivery address in person at any VZP branch, through an information centre or by completing and submitting an application form and the policyholder registration form. The policyholder is obliged to notify his health insurance company within 30 days from the date of the change in delivery address,” he pointed out.
For most customers, the delivery address is their permanent residential address. However, the correspondence address may be different from the permanent residential address and is valid until further notice.
“The insured is also advised to check the name label on the mailbox. In order for the package with the card to be delivered correctly to the insured, the mailbox must be marked with the full first and last name,” reminds Plívová.
VZP employees will not address, warn, bypass or personally check insured persons in any way, for example when their license expires. VZP says that if someone contacts an insured person in such circumstances, it is likely fraud.
If the insured person’s card has expired and has not received a new card (for example because the delivery address has expired), they should contact VZP and request a resend. In addition to the branch or information center, this can also be done through the Moje VZP application. The insurance company’s staff will check the problem and arrange for a new card to be reissued to the current delivery address.
But people should be treated even if they have lost their ID. “When visiting a health institution, the patient must present a valid insurance card. The exception is in cases where immediate care is required. If he does not have a valid card because he has not yet arrived, he can request the issuance of a replacement document, which is a confirmation that temporarily replaces the EHIC. This confirmation is valid for three months from the date of issuance,” assures Plívová.
The plastic card and the paper replacement document are equivalent, so the replacement document can be used as proof at the doctor’s office. The same procedure applies in the case of necessary medical treatment in EU countries and the UK.
Just a decade ago, VZP held a similarly large card-issuing campaign, when it replaced the cards of nearly 4 million customers. With nearly 6 million customers, VZP is the largest of the seven Health Insurance Companies In Czech.
