The University of Sharjah welcomes the new academic year (2024-2025) with the inclusion of the “School of Public Policy” to its diverse cluster of schools, as the university offers a number of specialized academic programs in various scientific departments, including in the field of public policy, international relations and political science. The school will also include a Center for Public Policy Studies to contribute to policy formulation and analysis through specialized research in the field.
Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, President of the University, stressed the role of the School of Public Policy in supporting and achieving the University’s mission and promoting excellence in the fields of teaching, learning, scientific research and community engagement, noting that the establishment of the School stems from the University of Sharjah’s desire to train a new generation of Emirati leaders who provide the knowledge, skills and vision required to meet the challenges of governance and policy analysis, thereby enhancing the country’s national agenda and developing local expertise.
He explained that the college will focus its research, activities, and educational and learning programs on environmental sustainability, social justice, health care, education, and innovation. The college will also encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and urge students and faculty to engage in rigorous scientific research by strengthening partnerships with various government agencies, international organizations, and local communities.
Dr. Youssef Al-Hayek, Acting Dean of the School of Public Policy and Vice President for Academic Affairs, noted that one of the goals and vision of the school is to become a leader in the field of public policy education and to contribute to the development of the UAE and its global position by providing high-quality education and strengthening the country’s culture of scientific research, enabling students and faculty to generate valuable insights and evidence-based policymaking.
For her part, Dr Mona Reda, a lecturer at the School of Public Policy, explained that university graduates have various career opportunities in the country’s government and international agencies, non-profit organisations and private companies.
