This article is not only a brief summary of one’s career, but also a deep hope for the people of Aruba. It is the culmination of academic research, years of writing publicly about innovation and working in international networks at the highest level. What I can share with you here is that the highest level groups are ready to invest in “reinventing” Aruba’s economy in a profound way that will strategically benefit all citizens of our island and society as a whole in the long term.
This radical vision of innovation will bring huge changes to our society. In the short term, this may mean that some people are really afraid of such a vision. But we are looking at the obvious reality that there is a huge gap between the $2,600 minimum living allowance and the wages of most people in our community, the real danger to our pension and health funds, a big problem in our current account, which is in deficit due to imported heavy fuel oil and suffocating electricity prices. Finally, the credit rating is relatively low and close to dangerous levels.
All of this leads me personally to believe that only radical innovation can provide lasting strategic solutions, and that this is within our reach if we as a people make the choice in a unified way.
A cry for help in the wilderness
I shared my vision for innovation with the government about 7 years ago, when it was not fully concretized, the technological intrusion was not so obvious, the return on investment was low, and the urgency was high due to the social crisis. The situation faced by the people of Aruba was not so serious. During this period, political activities were carried out regularly, including meetings with relevant ministers, meetings with parliamentarians, etc. Our political cadres did not listen seriously at all. Meanwhile, Aruba continued to regress and all problems became more urgent.
Out of desperation, he began writing publicly more than 3 years ago. Personally, there are many days when the process of writing innovation feels like crying out for help in the desert. You can scream all you want, but it won’t happen anyway. Yet, he continues to write in every possible medium.

Phase 1: Solar panels and battery system in Aruba.
In the first phase, we hope to provide every house in Aruba with its own solar panel and battery system. It will also be equipped with a fleet of electric vehicles to act as a “social car pool” for those with fewer resources. This process will serve as a case study for future follow-up multi-billion dollar investments in Aruba. In this context, an abundant and stable energy base will pave the way for technology concepts that require abundant and stable electricity to come to Aruba.
Phase 2: Follow-on investments and building a large portfolio of Aruba companies
I would like to point out that we are talking about a group that not only shares my deep hopes for Aruba, but can even mobilize significant funds to “revolutionize” our island’s economy. At the same time, we hope to bring in a large portfolio of the world’s most advanced companies to diversify Aruba’s economy. Think supercomputing facilities, pharmaceutical R&D, and of course software R&D, including artificial intelligence systems.

What does this mean for Aruba and its citizens in the long run?
1. An energy independent future from heavy fuel oil. This will permanently address a large portion of our current account deficit, strategically protecting the value of the Aruban Florin. At the same time, the entire island of Aruba will enjoy lower electricity prices, which will have direct and indirect effects on all of us on the island.
2. Cheap electricity prices will make advanced agriculture more attractive. In this case, we can enjoy fruits and vegetables that we produce ourselves, and at a cheaper price. This will again reduce our current account deficit.
3. Social Ridesharing will solve many transportation problems for a large portion of our society who have difficulty purchasing a car and the insurance/costs that come with it.
4. 3D printed houses will profoundly reduce the cost of building houses, making the dream of home ownership a reality without making citizens become debt slaves to owning their own house.
5. Artificial intelligence will be able to provide services of the same or even higher quality than we are accustomed to, but at a very low price or even for free.
6. Ensuring the use of modern technology with radical transparency in governance will finally solve many ongoing cases of corruption and is a big step towards upgrading governance in our country the way we want it to be.
7. Local 3D printing and manufacturing can be the first step towards a truly circular economy.
8. A nation with a diversified economy in the “high-tech” sector, with state-of-the-art R&D facilities, will ultimately be able to attract our students and the children of the planet back home with the highest level of innovation opportunities.
9. Finally, we have the opportunity to improve Aruba’s credit rating in a structural way and make it more attractive to large international investors who will invest in the country if the credit rating moves in the right direction.
The goal is clear. By 2024, create an Aruba where we all want to live, with the highest possible standard and quality of life. Not just for a few years, but for generations to come and for our children to enjoy a bright future.
Even so, the current government is resisting.
I can imagine that the rulers themselves do not like me. But to simply resist such a beautiful vision, supported by extremely serious groups at the highest international level, is beyond my words. All regular means of communication were used. Formal letters signed by the Prime Minister, Minister of Energy, Utilities, Speaker of Parliament were sent. No reply was received from any of the parties mentioned. This not only deeply humiliates my country in front of the international community. But it also shows that the real goal of my country’s current government is not at all to serve the people of Aruba and their well-being in a well-thought-out strategic way.
