exist Tuesday, July 23, 2024The Faculty of Food and Agriculture (FFA) Department of Food Production is bringing Mobile agricultural environmental services arrive Orangery area.
FFA recognizes the importance of safe and quality food to people’s diets. Therefore, Agri-Environmental Services (AES) was established to support farmers’ growing demand for plant health services and their need to grow healthier, safer food. The service also extends to other relevant stakeholders, including agrochemical companies. Plant health services are essential to maintaining the vitality of agricultural systems, ensuring the quality and abundance of the food supply needed to feed a growing local and global population. These services cover a wide range of scientific analyses and diagnostics, including pest and disease diagnostics, soil and water analysis, animal feed analysis, and food analysis.
The purpose of these integrated services is to increase the resilience of the food system, improve the sustainability of agricultural practices, and ultimately improve the supply and quality of food and agricultural products. Recognizing the critical role farmers play in ensuring food supply, AES will, for the first time, adopt a mobile approach to provide diagnostic services directly to farmers in the Orange Grove area. The program will focus on diagnosing issues related to plant and soil health and provide guidance on appropriate remedial actions when possible. The program is free of charge. On designated dates, the FFA team will visit the farm and meet with the farmers.
During these visits, our team will conduct soil health assessments, including pH and electrical conductivity (EC) measurements, as well as diagnose pest and disease issues.
