Tegucigalpa – Ramiro Muñoz, head of the Military Public Order Police (PMOP), reported Monday evening that two companies had finally passed the selection of bids to build a maximum security prison on Isla Cisne.
The chairman of the prison system intervention committee explained that this is an international company and another domestic company.
He commented that initially, once the planning process was completed, 16 companies came on board, and then we moved on to the contracting process, and 12 companies were interested in participating.
He said that in the end, only two companies met all the requirements and passed all the necessary screenings to win the tender.
In this regard, he noted that in the next few hours a decision will be made on which company will be selected to build the maximum security prison.
It is worth mentioning that the construction period of the prison is one year.
Since July 1 last year, the National Penitentiary Institute has officially launched the screening process for companies interested in building a maximum security prison center in the Swan Islands in the Caribbean Sea of Honduras.
The process entered its final stage on Monday with the selection of two companies from which to decide who will undertake the work.
According to government regulations, the prison is planned to accommodate 2,000 prisoners.
Its construction will be carried out by the Armed Forces, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Institute for the Conservation of Forests (ICF), it has been announced. (RO)
