At least seven Sudanese refugees were killed and 32 others injured in a serious traffic accident near the Libyan city of Kufra on Monday evening.
The accident occurred 120 kilometers south of the city when a vehicle carrying 40 refugees overturned.
Ibrahim Abu Al-Hassan, director of the Kufra Central Ambulance Service, told Radio Tamazuj that emergency vehicles responded quickly after receiving the report.
“The vehicle involved in the accident was carrying 40 passengers and four ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transport the injured,” he said. “Most of the injured were taken to Kufra Teaching Hospital, while some were in a critical condition and needed to be transferred to hospitals in northern cities. Arrangements are being made to transfer them to Benghazi as soon as possible.”
The incident comes amid growing concerns about road safety and the impact of traffic accidents on Sudanese refugees in the region. Kufra has recently been hit by a series of tragic accidents that have had a severe impact on local communities and displaced persons.
