Thanks to a new undersea cable called Deep Blue One, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, and Trinidad and Tobago now have access to high-speed internet.
It’s a fiber-optic cable that runs under the sea and provides a huge boost to our internet connections.
The cable will be no less than 2,100 kilometers long and will be able to transmit large amounts of data very quickly, at speeds of up to 12 terabits per second.
This means that everyone can use the Internet faster, which is good for schools, hospitals and companies. For example, schools can provide online courses more quickly and easily, and doctors can communicate better with patients through the Internet.
Digicel, the company behind the project, used the latest technology to ensure the reliability of the internet connection.
If something goes wrong with the cable, there is an additional path for the data to pass through so that the internet continues to work.
The cable is important not only for fast internet, but also for the economy of Suriname and other countries. For example, it can help offshore oil and gas extraction, as communication on the platforms is now easier.
Digicel also said they took environmental factors into consideration when laying the cables. They didn’t specify what they did, but they said they were environmentally friendly.
