As housing costs continue to rise and finding a home becomes increasingly difficult, Hudson County’s largest city has begun rolling out a way to make affordable housing more accessible to residents.
Jersey City’s new affordable housing portal is now live https://affordablehousingjc.comThe online system hopes to provide “one-stop shopping” for people looking to find affordable housing, apply for the lottery and learn about new housing opportunities.
“We are increasing affordable housing opportunities throughout Jersey City at a historic pace, and this portal is the next step in improving housing equity and accessibility,” Mayor Fulop said in a statement announcing the move. “This portal is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live in safe, secure and affordable housing.”

The portal allows interested parties to create a profile, apply for multiple properties at once, track and edit applications, and receive updates. Users can also communicate directly with property managers and staff from Jersey City’s affordable housing department.
The portal allows users to search for affordable housing by location, unit type and affordability level. The portal includes workforce units and also provides a comprehensive affordable housing map listing every unit in the city, including projects that have been approved or are under construction.
There are currently two properties accepting applications through the portal. One is at 125 Lake Street and the other is at 475 Connie Mibo AvenueThe draw for both properties is expected to take place later this month.
The creation of a new affordable housing portal comes as Jersey City passes a long-sought Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance Work has begun on building more affordable housing in new developments.
