JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Industry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are conducting a survey on the supply of electric motorcycles in Indonesia as part of efforts to promote the development of the electric motorcycle industry.
Industry Minister Ignatius Warsito, a team of experts in charge of strengthening domestic industrial capacity, said here on Wednesday that the survey aims to understand estimates and issues related to the supply and demand of electric motorcycles in the country.
The survey is expected to help promote technological transformation in the development of Indonesia’s electric motorcycle industry.
“The collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and JICA is expected to be an important step in driving economic growth, innovation and technological transformation in Indonesia,” he said.
According to Warsito, the ministry aims to increase the number of electric motorcycles in Indonesia to 4.5 million per year.
The achievement of this goal stems from the ministry’s commitment to promoting large-scale adoption of electric motorcycles in the country by offering purchase incentives, and making Indonesia a sales and production hub for the main component of electric motorcycle batteries in the Southeast Asian region.
“This effort will be strengthened by our plan to build 32,000 public charging or battery swapping stations by 2030, and by providing incentives such as electricity bill discounts and tax breaks for e-bike owners,” he said.
He added that the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry will create new jobs, reduce the environmental impact of traditional vehicles and make Indonesia a major player in the Asean electric vehicle industry.
Earlier, the Ministry of Industry reported that the government has so far disbursed subsidies for the purchase of 30,083 electric motorcycles, accounting for 60.1% of the target of 50,000 electric motorcycles in fiscal 2024.
