Today, mobs broke into the Sherpur district jail in northern India Bangladesh 500 prisoners were allowed to escape.
Around 3 p.m., a group of people carrying sticks and weapons took to the streets curfewtransferred to the local border.
At one point they broke into a jail in Damdama-Kaliganj area, broke through the prison gate and set it on fire.
The prison attack led to the suspension of 77 officials, including the prison director and prison guards.
The mob also set fire to several institutions and offices in the area.
Yesterday, police clashed with protesters, using tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse tens of thousands of protesters, leaving at least 91 people dead, hundreds injured and curfews imposed across the country.
The protests in Bangladesh, which began last month after student groups demanded an end to a controversial quota system for government jobs, turned anti-government, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed, who won a fourth term in office in a January election that the opposition boycotted.
Vazed resigned today and went India.
