Representative Alia Nassif revealed that she has filed a request for an investigation into the transfer of funds through money sale windows for the purchase of gold and precious metals.
“We have submitted a request to the Director General of the National Security Agency and Central Bureau of Standardization and Quality Control to initiate an investigation into the source of funds transferred through the currency sales window for the purchase of gold and precious metals in 2024,” Nassif said in a tweet on the ‘X’ platform.
“We asked them to verify the accuracy of the customs and Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control procedures and verify the sales operations in the market and who are the real beneficiaries of the gold purchases as there are confirmed reports that the increase in window dollar sales is due to the importation of large amounts of gold and the loss of buyers,” she added.
“Instead of being sold on the market, the gold is remelted and smuggled out of Iraq, benefiting from the difference between the official and parallel exchange rates, in addition to legitimizing funds obtained through corruption,” Nassif noted, adding, “This is how the national economy is hit, and the victims are ordinary citizens who cannot find food.”
