Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet won her first Olympic gold medal tonight by winning the women’s 5000m in Paris.

Chebet finished first with a time of 14:28.56 minutes, beating her compatriot Faith Kipyegon to second place.

Kipyegon, the 1500m gold medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics, ran a time of 14 minutes 29.60 seconds to take the silver medal.

The third place went to Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands with a time of 14:30.61.

Hassan won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and also won the 10,000m at the same Olympics.
