Knin was in a festive mood on Monday as commemorations of the Victory and Motherland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian Veterans Day and the 29th anniversary of Military Police Operation Storm (VRO) continued, but this year the number of visitors was lower than in previous years. The commemorations ended at Dr. Ante Starcevic Square, after which the central ceremony moved to the NK Dinara Stadium.

This year, the number of participants in the commemoration of the storm has decreased significantly. According to the people of Knin, the reason is that in recent years the space on the Dr. Ante Starcevic Square has been fenced off, which is why only politicians and journalists can stay inside the square. They are troubled by this attitude towards veterans, the people who created Croatia. “I remember the storm 29 years ago because I was a participant. I always get goose bumps, but I am sad that in recent years veterans can’t go to the square because everything is fenced off. They let us into the square only at the end of the show. This is a chance for veterans to unite again…”, he said. Ante Perkovic.

Marija Bušić, who also came to Knin from Zadar, said she has been coming for several years, but she has never seen so few people attending the celebrations as today. She doesn’t know what the reason is, and doesn’t understand why there are so many defenders standing in the sun behind the fence. “I don’t know what she will say. This is an important day and we should spend it together. Being divided will get us nothing,” Bušić said.
