Libreville, Sunday, August 4, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – A group of young Gabonese people gathered in the “Lcoy Gabon” platform (Local Youth Conference) for a conference on “Climate Change” in Libreville on July 30 and 31.

They spent two days discussing the issue in order to develop innovative recommendations that will be presented to the “Youth” Working Group during the Conference of the Parties (COP29), scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan on November 11-12, 2024. The Minister of Environment, Ms. Prudence Sindzi, noted that this year’s theme “Climate Emergency: Young People in Action” inevitably sounds like a call for young people to mobilize for more concrete actions.

Mr. Frank Ondenor, Chairperson of the above-mentioned conference, insisted that such a plan inevitably calls for responsibility of all young actors involved in the critical issue of the climate emergency.

“Beyond protecting our forest wealth, we must become architects of development that respects the balance of nature and ensures the well-being of all. Gabon’s young people, our creativity and our desire to drive change are the drivers of change in the world today and in the future,” said Mr. Ondeno, before discussing the selected panels and workshop issues in more detail.

Young people shared powerful and rich messages, responding to in-depth research on climate issues and demanding immediate and concrete action to protect the planet.

“Children and young people are tomorrow’s leaders and their participation today is crucial to building a sustainable future,” said Etia Maud, UNICEF Gabon Youth Climate Advocate, during her speech.

“La Lcoy-Gabon” is a local youth club that brings young people together before the International Youth Conference on Climate Change. This event allows us to train as many young people as possible in order to build a national youth advocacy for Lcoy-29.
