Sigiri: The Great Mosque in Disrepair

The condition of the Great Mosque of Siguiri is terrible. On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Guinea News Live noted that there are defects in the roof, which prevents the worshippers from performing prayers.
The observations at the Sijiri Grand Mosque, not far from the city’s commune market, were shocking. Inside this place of worship that accommodates more than a thousand people, you can see worshippers holding mops to wipe away the water. The water comes from the dilapidated roof.
In addition to this, basins have been placed throughout the mosque to retain water from the roof. In response, the Secretary General of the Islamic League in the region expressed regret and made an appeal. “We are indeed facing a tragic situation. Despite repeated promises of renovation, this is the pitiful state of the Sigiri Grand Mosque. The believers find it difficult to pray, so we ask for help from all people of good will,” said Haroun Doumbouya.
It should be remembered that engineers came to conduct studies in March 2024, but they never yielded results. Every approaching storm heightens the concerns of Muslim worshippers at the Great Mosque of Sigiri.
