Microsoft announced in a blog post on Saturday that a software update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused a global technical outage that affected about 8.5 million Microsoft devices.
Microsoft said the update affected 8.5 million devices running Windows, or less than 1% of all Windows devices.
CrowdStrike helped develop a scalable solution that will help Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure speed up the remediation process, she said, adding that the tech giant worked with both Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to collaborate on the most efficient approach.
Airports around the world, as well as a large number of financial and media organizations, have been impacted by recent IT outages caused by a CrowdStrike software update.
