Researchers at Japan’s Geospatial Information Corporation confirmed that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Morocco last Friday night, with the ground near the epicenter rising by 20 centimeters.
Prior to this analysis, the researchers used data from the Earth-12 satellite and found that the ground rose by 20 centimeters in the area close to the earthquake and dropped by 7 centimeters in the south.
The study also concluded that the two pieces of land along the rift pushed against each other, while one piece slid over the other.
Meanwhile, Professor Yuji Yagi of the University of Tsukuba in Japan, who studied how faults move based on earthquake data from around the world, found that the rupture on the fault lasted about seven seconds and propagated upward in an east-southeast direction from the earthquake’s epicenter.
It is worth noting that the Daiichi-2 satellite was launched on May 25, 2014 from the Tanegashima Space Center on an H-2A rocket.
