Immunologist Andrey Martyushov-Boklad announced that some foods, such as gluten, trans fats and fructose, increase the risk of serious diseases and cause the body to age faster.

“Some foods stimulate the body to accelerate aging, manifesting as chronic inflammation,” he told Russian news agency RIA Novosti. These include substances found in fast food, easily digestible carbohydrates including fructose and starch, trans fats and refined vegetable oils, especially those containing “frequent heat and gluten.”

He points out that the above products stimulate all the known mechanisms of accelerated aging: chronic stress, chronic inflammation, insulin resistance and poor energy production at the cellular level (mitochondrial dysfunction).

“We have to take into account that the same mechanism may differ from person to person,” he said. “For example, chronic inflammation may appear in one person as cardiovascular disease, while in another it may appear as an autoimmune disease. In a third person it may appear as a tumor, and in a fourth it may appear as a neurodegenerative disease, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.”

He added: “Therefore, if a person wants to avoid serious chronic diseases, he must first eliminate fast food and refined artificial foods from his diet and eat natural plant and animal products instead.”
