It was a time of anticipation for Jamaican Hansle Parchment, the reigning Olympic champion in the 110m hurdles, as he had to wait for his time of 13.43 seconds to confirm his qualification for the semi-finals as a non-automatic qualifier.

Parchment was one of three Jamaican athletes to advance, with Orlando Bennett and Rasheed Broadbear also qualifying for the semi-finals.

Bennett was second in the second round in 13.35 seconds, behind Louis Mendy of Senegal who won in 13.31 seconds.

Broadbell had earlier met three-time world champion and current world champion Grant Holloway.

The American won the title in 13.01, while Broadbell finished second in 13.42.

The semi-finals will be held on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m.
