Dubai: Hazem Helm
The Japanese Embassy and Consulate in the UAE will transfer tourist visa applications to Tokyo to the offices of VFS Global from August this year, according to tour and travel agents in Dubai.
The agencies explained to Al-Khaleej that the Japanese Consulate in Dubai has suspended its e-visa services for residents of the country for four months and will restart the service in September next year by submitting applications through VFS offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
UAE-based VFS Global said it opened a centre in early August in cooperation with the Japanese Embassy in the country to accept applications for tourist visas to Tokyo, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The company confirmed that it will begin accepting applications for short-term and long-term Japanese visas by appointment free of charge in advance through the company’s website.
Benefits and Cooperation
Jun Imanishi, Consul of Japan in Dubai, said: “We are working with VFS Global to open the Japan Visa Application Centre in Dubai. We hope that those who wish to travel to Japan will benefit from the most convenient and efficient visa services, and that the centre will serve as a base to enhance exchanges between the people of Japan and the UAE and further develop bilateral relations between our two countries.”
Imanishi added: “With the opening of this centre, VFS Global and the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai will work closely on visas to encourage more people to visit Japan.” Monaz Bilimoria, regional president of VFS Global, said: “These centres will play a role in meeting the growing demand for travel to Japan. We are confident that the visa application centre will make the application process smoother and easier and provide better services to travellers.”
She added: “From September 1 next year, travellers eligible for a Japanese e-visa will be able to visit a VFS Global centre to submit their Japanese visa application.” The company said residents who wish to apply for a Japanese visa from next month must have seven main documents, including: a passport with a validity period of not less than six months, a printed copy of the completed visa application form, which can be downloaded from the company’s website, a bank statement, a letter from the employer/any proof of financial capacity, proof of UAE residence (residence visa, ID card), flight and hotel reservations, other additional documents/including an invitation letter. For those living in Japan (if any).
