JCF All-Women Training Showcase Grand Celebration – Jamaica Information Services

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) will showcase an all-female drill during the grand celebrations on Independence Day, August 6, at the National Stadium.

This was one of many events to mark 75 years of women serving in the JCF.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), said the exhibition would highlight the many milestones achieved by women in the organisation.

She told JIS News: “We will be doing some drill displays showing some of the things that women have done in the police force, the progress we have made as an organisation and the contribution that women have made, which I’m sure the audience will be very excited about.”

She added that the exercises will be choreographed to mark “different milestones in this journey, which is what people want to come out and see. The women of the JCF will also be taking part in the performances”.

Senior Superintendent Lindsay noted that the entry of women into the police force was a pinnacle of growth and development for many members, many of whom were leading many of the organisation’s departments.

“The contribution that women have made over the years has been phenomenal and there is not a single department in the police force that doesn’t have women in it,” she said.

Recently, the JCF promoted three women Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Karina Powell-Hood is the highest-ranking female member of the police force. Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jevene Bent is the first woman to receive the DCP.

He was followed by the retired DCP, Novellet Grant also served as commissioner.

Retired Senior Superintendent Lola Evans was the only female officer in the Mobile Reserve at the time, while Retired Superintendent Ionie Ramsay Nelson was the first female motorcyclist to join the JCF. She also led the Police Communications Network (CCN).

“This demonstrates that we are gender neutral in the discharge of our duties and we have at least four women as commissioners. This is a significant milestone,” Senior Superintendent Lindsay said.
