Solomon Islands fight back to beat Samoa to keep semi-final hopes alive at OFC U-16 Men’s Championship in Tahiti

Two goals in a minute midway through the second half ignited the Solomon Islands’ campaign at the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Men’s U-16 Championship in Tahiti.

The Solomon Islands trailed Samoa 1-0 at half-time at the Pate Stadium in Papeete before eventually winning 3-1.

A minute later, with Samoa still recovering from the equaliser and the defence in disarray, Solomon Islands captain Kennedy Sihiu fired a shot from inside the box past Samoa’s Tyrell, who seemingly had no sight of the goal.

These two goals completely changed the situation of the game. Before that, Samoa’s defense had basically no problems, and the back line was controlled by Dante Leota.

Ashley Kwaimasia sealed victory for the Solomon Islands with a brilliant solo goal eight minutes from time in a stunning curling display that left the Tyrrells with no chance.
