Two goals in a minute midway through the second half ignited the Solomon Islands’ campaign at the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Men’s U-16 Championship in Tahiti.
The Solomon Islands trailed Samoa 1-0 at half-time at the Pate Stadium in Papeete before eventually winning 3-1.
Midway through the second half, Eddie Rukumana’s side looked on the verge of elimination but capitalised on a couple of goalkeeper errors to take the lead.

A minute later, with Samoa still recovering from the equaliser and the defence in disarray, Solomon Islands captain Kennedy Sihiu fired a shot from inside the box past Samoa’s Tyrell, who seemingly had no sight of the goal.
These two goals completely changed the situation of the game. Before that, Samoa’s defense had basically no problems, and the back line was controlled by Dante Leota.
Ashley Kwaimasia sealed victory for the Solomon Islands with a brilliant solo goal eight minutes from time in a stunning curling display that left the Tyrrells with no chance.
Of the several chances in the first half, captain Kingston Hansell was the hero for Samoa, who opened the scoring in the 37th minute.day minute.
The ball was played to Jason Goble-Lott, who swept it to captain Kingston Hansell on the left side of the box. He fired a right-foot shot past desperate Solomon Islands goalkeeper Alike Hale.
The result leaves both teams on 3 points in the group and will play for a place in the semi-finals in the final group games against Tahiti and New Caledonia respectively.
